Kenya Environmental Lawyers (KELA) calls for urgent protection of parks, forests, and urban green spaces from encroachment and unchecked development. These ecosystems are not idle land they are essential for climate resilience, biodiversity, and community wellbeing. They sustain clean air, protect future generations, and anchor our fight against climate change.
We must speak up, take action, and defend nature because nature defends us.
KELA marked World Environment Day with its 2nd Edition Tree Growing Exercise at Ngong Road Forest, bringing together stakeholders and environmental champions in a shared commitment to climate action. The initiative underscored the vital role of trees in restoring ecosystems, sequestering carbon, and strengthening climate resilience as Kenya advances its ambitious reforestation agenda.
The Kenya Environmental Lawyers Association (KELA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with agencies to strengthen collaboration on environmental conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and climate justice in Kenya.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint efforts aligned with KELA’s mandate to promote environmental law, enhance policy and legal frameworks, support public interest litigation, and build capacity in environmental governance. Through the partnership, both parties aim to advance environmental governance and reinforce adherence to the rule of law, while supporting policy and legislative reforms for environmental protection.
