The Environment and Land Court in Nairobi has halted the decision by the Kenyan government to lift ban on logging activities in forest plantations. Justice Angote delivered the ruling in a petition filed by the Law society of Kenya which sought to stop the lifting of logging ban which was in place since the logging moratorium was declared by the government in 2018. The court held that the petitioners and members of the public are entitled to participate in the making of laws and regulations. The court further directed the government to implement the recommendations by the Task Report on Forest Resources Management and Logging Activities which made far-reaching recommendations on sustainable and equitable forest resource management in Kenya.
